January 31,2014 - Access Copyright Foundation Awards $99,020 in Events Grants

Toronto, January 31, 2014 – The Access Copyright Foundation is pleased to announce the results of the 2013 Access Copyright Foundation Events Grants competition. The Foundation will award grants to eighteen organizations, on the basis of peer adjudication.

Celebrating Canadian publishing and literary arts, the Access Copyright Foundation Events Grants promote literary and visual arts as well. Organizations and artists groups use the funding to showcase publishable work or to host professional development events for writers, visual artists, publishers and related arts professionals. Events may bring work to the public, or bring artists together to learn and discuss their work.

“Organizations and groups play vital roles in our creative communities,” says Penney Kome, Chairperson of the Access Copyright Foundation. “We at the Foundation are extremely pleased to extend our support to these groups.”

The Saskatchewan Arts Board administers the Access Copyright Foundation Grants Program and juries. For the 2013 events, the SAB struck a jury composed of author and publisher Candas Jane Dorsey (Tesseract Books and The Books Collective); editor and instructor Elizabeth Eve, who capped her forty years in the publishing industry by serving as the book publishing program officer (English and French) at the Canada Council for seven years; and Sean Wilson, co-founder and Artistic Director of the Ottawa International Writers Festival.

The Access Copyright Foundation was created to promote and support Canadian culture by providing grants to encourage the development and dissemination of publishable Canadian works. The Foundation provides grants to publishers, individual creators and publishing, writing and visual arts organizations through Research Grants, Professional Development Grants, and Events Grants.
